Listen: Man calls 999 to say he needs a newspaper
Norfolk Police has asked people to only call 999 in an emergency after the force received "significant" increase in calls last month.
Three out of four calls made to Norfolk Police's 999 call centre in June did not need an immediate police response, including someone claiming they were at trouble at sea when they were not, someone with a cow in their garden and a man saying he needed a Sun newspaper.
Ch Insp Matt Howes told BBC Radio Norfolk: "When things are busy within the control room, it is a case of dealing with what we've got, moving on and then getting to those genuine emergencies.
"Just think before you make that phone call."
