Motorcyclist in critical condition after M1 crash
National HighwaysA motorcyclist is in a critical condition in hospital following a crash on the M1 in Leicestershire.
Emergency services were called to a southbound stretch of motorway between junction 23 at Loughborough and junction 22 at Markfield at about 16:20 BST on Thursday.
The crash involved a white BMW F800 motorbike and a white Enterprise Ford Transit van, Leicestershire Police said.
A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink and causing serious injury through careless or inconsiderate driving. He has been released under investigation.
The driver and passengers in the van were not injured, police added.
National Highways said the southbound side of the M1 was shut for several hours following the crash, causing delays of more than an hour.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the crash, or who may have dashcam footage, to get in touch.
