The southbound side of the M1 has been closed in Leicestershire due to a crash, police have said.

Leicestershire Police said the motorway was shut from junction 23 at Loughborough to junction 22 at Markfield.

National Highways said emergency services were on the scene of a collision, with delays of more than an hour and six miles (9.6km) of congestion on the approach to the closure.

The organisation added it does not have an estimated time for when the road will be reopened.
