Arrest after cyclist, 16, fatally struck by car

A 16-year-old cyclist has died and a man arrested after the teenager's bike was struck by a car.

The collision happened on Friday at the junction of Cattell Road and Templefield Street in the Small Heath area of Birmingham, near the Birmingham City stadium.

The boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries but died on Saturday, West Midlands Police said.

A man, aged 47, was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and he remains in police custody. The force has asked for witnesses to the collision, which happened at about 05:25 BST.

West Midlands Police said its thoughts were with the boy's loved ones, who are being supported by specialist officers.
