Cyclist left seriously hurt in hit-and-run crash

A cyclist has been left seriously injured after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run.

Police, who were called at about 05:25 BST, said they found a car abandoned at the scene, at the junction of Cattell Road and Templefield Street, in Small Heath, Birmingham. The driver is thought to have fled on foot.

An investigation has been launched to track down the driver and West Midlands Police has urged anyone with information to contact the force.

The cyclist remains in a serious condition in hospital, officers have said. Cattell Road, near the Birmingham City FC stadium, has been shut. Police are examining CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses.
