Repair stations have been installed at six East Riding Leisure centres to help cyclists get back on the road.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council's road safety team has fitted the self-service cycle kits to the outside of the centres in Bridlington, Beverley, Driffield, Haltemprice, Withernsea and Hornsea.

The equipment is free to use and includes essential tools and bike pumps.

Councillor Paul West, the authority's cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "We've fitted this equipment at easy-to-reach locations to help cyclists if they are out and about and need to make urgent repairs to their bikes."

The project has been funded by Active Travel England which aims to encourage cycling as a convenient, sustainable and healthy mode of transport as well as supporting people choosing to travel by bike.

"Whether people are commuting, exercising or exploring our beautiful area, these repair stations will help to ensure any minor mechanical issues don't stop people getting out on a bike," West added.

The council's road safety team will hold a number of launch demonstration events for the repair stations in May.
