Town's Pride event a 'celebration of people'

Organisers say the event, now in its fourth year, will be the "biggest and boldest" yet

Hundreds of people are gathering in Beverley to mark the town's annual Pride event.

Organisers said the event, now in its fourth year, was the "biggest and boldest" yet, with more stalls, live entertainment and family-friendly activities.

The main event runs until 18:00 BST, followed by an afterparty at Firepit on Chantry Lane.

Lucy Thompson, chair of Beverley Pride, said the day was a "celebration of people".

Thompson said: "I think for any city or town, village or hamlet, it's just so important for people to feel included, accepted and celebrated.

"I want people to walk into our town and think I feel safe here," she added.

"Today is all about showing that everyone is welcome."
