NHS cancer awareness bus to offer free health checks
NHSAn NHS double decker bus will be coming to Wolverhampton and areas of the Black Country to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer and the importance of early detection.
The bus will visit Queen Square in the city on Wednesday between 10:00 and 16:00 BST. It will also stop off in Dudley, Walsall, West Bromwich and at the Merry Hill Shopping Centre in the same week.
Visitors can drop in and learn how to recognise potential cancer symptoms, get advice on what to do if they are concerned, and find out about local support services.
They can get information about breast, bowel and cervical screening including who is eligible, what the screening involves, and what results mean.
Free health checks will also be available, including blood pressure and blood sugar testing.
Organised by the NHS Black Country Integrated Care Board and NHS Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board, in partnership with local NHS organisations and councils, the cancer bus offers local people the opportunity to speak directly with healthcare professionals.
John Denley, Wolverhampton's director of public health, said: "This is part of a series of events taking place across the Black Country throughout the week, and I would encourage anyone who has any questions about the signs and symptoms of cancer, screening, diagnosis and treatment to come along to speak to experts who will be on board the bus."
