Three reports of gunshots across Leicestershire were targeted and carried out by people known to each other as part of an "ongoing dispute", police have said.

Police said it was linking reports of gunshots heard in Braunstone on 2 June, and in the villages of Newbold Verdon and Glenfield on Tuesday.

The force added damage was caused to property in all three incidents, consistent with a firearms discharge, and no-one was injured. A car was also damaged in Newbold Verdon.

Police confirmed on Friday all three incidents were linked and said: "We strongly believe that all three offences are being targeted at, and carried out by, individuals known to each other as part of an ongoing dispute."

Leicestershire Police was first called to reports of a gunshot in Cort Crescent, Braunstone, just before 22:30 BST on 2 June.

Detectives said gunshots were heard on Tuesday in Station Road, Glenfield, at about 09:50, but was not reported at the time. A cordon remains in place.

Less than an hour later, shortly before 22:40, officers were called to reports of gunshots in Brascote Lane, Newbold Verdon.

A 40-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life has been released on police bail pending further inquiries, police said.

Two women, 34 and 36, have also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and released under investigation.

Det Insp Louise Rooke said there was nothing to indicate a heightened risk to the public.

"We have a team of detectives and resources dedicated solely to this investigation and all lines of inquiry are being quickly accessed and swiftly pursued," she said.

"Local officers across these neighbourhoods remain on patrols to provide reassurance patrols and they are approachable to discuss any concerns you may have.

"Incidents of this nature, although extremely serious, are a rarity on our streets and we remain dedicated to tackling such criminality and locating and arresting those responsible."
