Video captures extent of wildfire damage to heathland

The latest video footage from the Suffolk coastal heathland has captured the extent of the damage to the natural landscape.

The fire engulfed 150 hectare at its height - equivalent to the size of 210 football pitches - affecting Dunwich Heath and RSPB Minsmere.

The blaze, which started at about 17:00 BST on Wednesday, has been "stabilised" and crews have been tackling hotspots as they appear.

Henry Griffin, deputy chief fire officer at Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The windspeed and temperatures continue to pose some challenges to firefighters, and while it is stabilised, it is still a dynamic incident that is seeing multiple re-ignitions."
