Man critically injured in police car crash

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash involving a police car.

The vehicle was responding to an emergency call when it was involved in a collision with a Ford Fiesta at the junction of Mather Avenue and Greenhill Road in Allerton, Liverpool, just before 19:30 BST on Wednesday, Merseyside Police said.

The driver of the Fiesta, a man in his 70s, is said to be in critical but stable condition.

The force said the incident had been referred the police watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
