Police investigating a serious assault in Leicester city centre have made two further arrests.

Leicestershire Police said officers were called to Horsefair Street at about 05:00 GMT on 30 November after receiving reports a man in his 20s had suffered serious head injuries.

He remains in hospital in a "critical but stable condition", the force added on Sunday.

A 20-year-old man who was previously arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm has been released on police bail, while two men, 18 and 22, were detained on Saturday and remain in custody.

'Do the right thing'

They have both been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, the force said

Officers have been reviewing hours of CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses who were in the area at the time.

Det Sgt Adrian Davies said the force believed there were others who were involved or linked to the assault and urged them to "do the right thing and make contact with us now".

He added: "A young man remains in hospital a week on having been seriously injured in this attack and we will not stop until we get answers for him and his family.

"If you were involved in the incident, or you know someone who was, it is extremely important that you make contact with us immediately."
