Investigation as dead badgers found in carrier bag

The discovery of two dead badgers dumped inside a carrier bag has led to a police appeal for witnesses.

Northamptonshire Police were contacted after the animals were found on a footpath off Wansford Road in Yarwell, west of Peterborough, on Saturday, 4 July.

The force said: "The circumstances in which the badgers were found have understandably caused upset to the [person] who discovered them, as well as the wider wildlife community."

Rural crime officer PC Chloe Gillies said: "Badgers are protected by law, and it is an offence under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 to injure or kill a badger."

She said the force wanted to do "all we can to find those responsible", and appealed to anyone who might have information.
