Driver, 71, denies guilt over three scooter deaths
BBCA motorist has denied causing the deaths of three scooter riders by dangerous driving.
Hugh Campion, 71, pleaded not guilty to a total of eight charges which relate to a collision on the A36 at Knook, near Warminster in Wiltshire, on 31 May 2025.
A Toyota Prius driven by Campion is alleged to have collided with three Vespa scooters travelling in the opposite direction. Robert Best, 62, died at the scene, while Marie Jones, 64, and Timothy Davies, 62, died in hospital.
Campion, of Upton Scudamore, Wiltshire, pleaded not guilty to three charges of causing death by dangerous driving during a short hearing at Salisbury Crown Court.
Campion also denied three alternative charges of causing death by careless driving.
He pleaded not guilty to causing serious injury to Gary Jones by dangerous driving and the alternative of causing injury by careless driving.
Judge Rufus Taylor told Campion he would face a trial lasting up to 10 days, which was due to begin on 1 June next year.
Campion was released on unconditional bail ahead of his next hearing.
