A man has appeared in court accused of murdering his grandmother at her home in Glasgow.

Grant McKinnon allegedly killed Elizabeth Colligan, 82, in Glasgow's Carntyne area last week. She was discovered dead outside her home at 04:00 last Saturday.

He made no plea in a private hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court following his arrest on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old was remanded in custody and committed for further examination by Sheriff Stuart Reid. He will appear at court again within the next eight days.

McKinnon has also been charged with a charge under the Communications Act.

Police had previously named McKinnon was someone they wanted to speak to in connection with the death.

They were searching for him for four days before he was arrested on Tuesday.

The dead woman, who had been a local lollipop lady and was known as Betty, was described as a "nice wee lady" by neighbours on Cardowan Road earlier this week.

Flowers have been left near her home.
