A man has been charged after a laser was shone at a police helicopter in Glasgow.

The aircraft was flying over a southern suburb at around 12:05 on Wednesday when the light was pointed at it from the Mount Florida area of the city.

Officers went to an address in the area and arrested a 55-year-old man who was subsequently charged.

Insp Scott Anderson said: "Thankfully these actions did not result in anyone coming to harm, however, showing such a disregard for safety is incredibly dangerous."

He said: "Such incidents are not only extremely dangerous and reckless, they are also criminal acts."

He added that anyone witnessing similar incidents should contact police immediately.

Police said a report will be forwarded to prosecutors.
