Four more arrests have been made in connection with the stabbing of a 13-year-old boy in a town centre.

The victim was attacked near the Riverside Shopping Centre in Rochdale on Saturday evening and remains in hospital with serious injuries, which are not said to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) arrested four teenage boys on suspicion of assault and possession weapon, while two other teenagers held on suspicion of the same offences have been released on bail.

Police have introduced temporary stop-and-search powers in Rochdale town centre following the attack.

The powers were put in place at 15:00 BST on Sunday and have been extended until 15:00 on Tuesday.

GMP said the move followed reports of wider disorder in Rochdale and youths carrying weapons.

It allows officers to search people in a designated area and order the removal of items believed to be worn to conceal identity.
