Underused garage sites could become new homes
Getty ImagesA West Sussex council is due to decide on plans to build 22 affordable homes on underused garage sites.
On Wednesday, the Horsham District Council's cabinet will vote on whether to approve a development which would provide one, two and three-bedroom homes to those on the housing register.
Belinda Walters, cabinet member for housing and communities, said the proposal would provide new homes "while turning underused garage sites into welcoming places to live".
The council says there are currently 789 households on the register, up from 724 in March 2025.
The homes, proposed for seven underused garage sites in Southwater, Horsham, Billingshurst, Steyning, Coldwaltham and Pulborough, would be available at social rents.
Should the plans be approved, work is expected to begin across the seven sites next year.
They have been developed through a partnership between the council and Saxon Weald.
