The work means sections of the A594, that links Maryport and Cockermouth, are to close from Monday

Parts of a key rural road are to close to allow for four days of resurfacing work.

Cumberland Council said the two-phase scheme would mean parts of the A594 at Dovenby, near Cockermouth in Cumbria, would shut from Monday until Thursday.

The work starts at 06:00 BST on Monday until 06:00 Wednesday between M-Sport Junction and Dearham Tollbar Junction, then a second closure will begin at 06:00 on Wednesday until Thursday at 20:00 from Cockermouth Roundabout to M-Sport Junction.

A signed diversion will be in place, with access for residents and businesses allowed. The council asked motorists to allow extra time for their journeys on the road that links Maryport with Cockermouth.
