Child suffers head injury in hit-and-run collision

A child suffered a head injury when struck by a car while crossing the road in a hit-and-run collision.

The crash happened on Clayton Road, Newcastle-under-Lyme, near to Clayton Hall Academy, at 15:20 BST on Friday, Staffordshire Police said. The child was taken to hospital with a head and leg injury.

The small black car drove off towards Newcastle Road, in the direction of M6 motorway, following the non-stop collision, said the force.

Anyone with information, CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage was urged to get in touch with police or call Crimestoppers anonymously.

"A small black car collided with a child who was crossing the road," said the Staffordshire force.

"A member of the public stopped to assist but we do not believe they were involved in the collision."
