Fourth man arrested in murder investigation

A fourth man has been arrested as part of an investigation into the death of a 20-year-old man in Staffordshire.

Jamie Evans, from Stone, died from a single stab wound in hospital after being found injured in Newcastle-under-Lyme on Friday, police said.

Two men, Corey Hughes, 20, and Connor Edward Cartlidge, 22, both of Newcastle-under-Lyme, were remanded into custody, charged with his murder, after appearing in court on Wednesday. Hughes was also accused of possession of a knife in a public place.

A 38-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and was released on bail, police said on Wednesday.

A 19-year-old man, also from Newcastle-under-Lyme, previously arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, was also released on bail.

Hughes and Cartlidge are next due to appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 13 November.

Officers were first called to Orme Road just after 17:00 on the day of the stabbing by West Midlands Ambulance Service, who were responding to a crash involving a Ford Fiesta and a parked Audi.

Evans was the driver of the Ford, was found with the stab wound and police said they believed he was stabbed before getting into the car.
