A man died hours after he was tasered and restrained by police when he refused to engage with officers and drop a pair of scissors, a police watchdog has confirmed

A police watchdog is investigating following the death of a man who was tasered by an officer.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to the 43-year-old's property in Bolton at about 23:10 BST on Wednesday 8 October.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) confirmed officers found the man bleeding heavily and refusing to drop a pair of scissors, leading to a Taser being discharged.

The IOPC also confirmed the man lost consciousness and stopped breathing, at which point officers began CPR. He died in the early hours of Thursday, the watchdog said.

Amanda Rowe, IOPC director of engagement, said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends and all those affected by his death."

The IOPC confirmed it was reviewing bodycam footage worn by officers.

"We need to independently establish the exact circumstances of this incident, the actions of the officers involved and all previous contact prior to his death," Rowe added.
