SEND provision part of £5.38m school revamp plans
PA MediaA £5.38m revamp of a primary school has been approved by councillors in Peterborough.
Peterborough City Council's cabinet agreed to fund a new car park and a reception area at Eye Church of England Primary School at a meeting on Thursday.
The plans also include the creation of a dedicated provision for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Construction of the new car park and reception area is expected to take place between July and December 2027, with work on the SEND facilities scheduled for January and February 2028.
The cabinet also agreed to fund a new access road, delivered by developer Allison Homes, which will give the school the opportunity to redesign how vehicles enter and leave the site, improving its overall access and traffic flow.
The school is made up of two classes per year group and can accommodate up to 420 pupils.
The council said the school's refurbishment would be funded by basic need allocations from central government.
The project would form part of Peterborough's wider work to increase local SEND provision.
Katy Cole, the Labour cabinet member for children's services, said: "This proposal reflects our commitment to building a more inclusive local education system, where children can feel supported, included and able to thrive alongside their peers."
