Primary school could get £5.38m revamp

Plans to improve facilities at a primary school are expected to be approved at a council meeting next week.

Peterborough City Council said it had set out a £5.38m budget to build a new car park and reception area at Eye C of E Primary School.

A designated area for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) would also be created at the reception.

"We know how important it is for children and families to have the right support as close to home as possible," said Katy Cole, the Labour cabinet member for children's services.

"This proposal reflects our commitment to building a more inclusive local education system, where children can feel supported, included and able to thrive alongside their peers."

The school is made up of two classes per year group and can accommodate up to 420 pupils.

The council says the £5.38m would be funded by basic need allocations from central government.

Council officers have recommended that the cabinet group authorise the design and construction of the proposals when they meet on Thursday.

The project would form part of Peterborough's wider work to increase local SEND provision.

It wants to develop "more specialist and inclusion spaces within mainstream schools, helping children remain connected to their local communities wherever this is the right provision for them".
