Residents told 'check bin day' as changes roll out
Oli Constable/BBCPeople are being urged to check their bin collection dates as changes come into force.
Many households in Colchester will see changes to their usual collection days and frequency.
New recycling and rubbish schedules have been introduced as part of a government push to make recycling simpler and more efficient in England.
Colchester City Council advised residents to check their updated collection details online to avoid any disruption.
Most recyclables, including plastics, paper, card, tins, and cans, can now be placed together in new recycling bins, while glass must still be placed separately in a recycling box.
The changes do not affect flats using communal bins.
Liberal Democrat councillor Martin Goss, responsible for waste, neighbourhoods and leisure, said the changes would only take a moment to prepare for.
"We know people have busy lives, so this is a simple but important step – take a minute now to check your new collection day," he said.
"Doing so will help make sure everything runs smoothly from the start and that no one is caught out during the change."
"We'll continue to support residents with clear information, so everyone knows what to do and when."
Many parts of Essex, including Braintree, have had their bin collections shaken up over the past few months.
Major changes to bin collections there are coming into force after Braintree District Council approved a new system aimed at boosting recycling.
Under the new arrangements, general waste will be collected every three weeks, and food waste weekly.
Recycling will be split across alternating fortnights, with paper and card one week, and glass, plastics and metals the next.
Garden waste collections will remain fortnightly for those who pay for the service.
The council will also replace clear recycling sacks with wheelie bins.
