Voters in Fletton and Woodston will send a new councillor to the town hall on 16 July

A by-election date has been set after a member of Peterborough City Council resigned her seat.

Daisy Blakemore-Creedon stepped down last week, with the former Labour member saying she had "never truly felt comfortable within the council".

A vote for the vacant seat will be held on 16 July.

It will be the third time this year that residents in Fletton and Woodston, who are represented by three ward councillors, have gone to the polls.

The first was in February following the death of Labour's Nick Thulbourn. That seat was won by Andrew O'Neill of Reform UK.

In May's local elections, Ed Murphy was elected for the Greens.

After May's elections, the council was left under no overall control, and a coalition of Labour, the Liberal Democrats and Peterborough First formed an administration.

The council is awaiting a decision on local government reorganisation, which is expected to see the authority abolished and merged with neighbouring councils.

By-election dates

  • 19 June – Nominations close
  • 30 June – Deadline to register to vote
  • 1 July – Postal vote application deadline
  • 8 July – Proxy vote application and voter authority certificate deadlines
