Plans have been announced to convert Derby County's former training ground into two cricket pitches.

Rolls-Royce Submarines has submitted a planning application to Derby City Council to establish two cricket squares at the former Ramarena training ground at Raynesway.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said the Rams left the training facility in the early 2000s and moved to Moor Farm in Oakwood. Since then, it is reported, the land has stood derelict and been the subject of anti-social behaviour and fires.

Planning documents state the creation of pitches would enable the re-location of Alvaston and Boulton Cricket Club, which plays matches within the Rolls-Royce site.

According to the plans, the former Ramarena Site was last used by Derby County more than 23 years ago.

It said the relocation of the cricket club would create "modern, high-quality" facilities.

"Relocating Alvaston and Boulton Cricket Club is essential to enable redevelopment of its current site as part of the Rolls-Royce Raynesway expansion.

"This wider scheme will deliver significant economic benefits such as job creation, supply-chain growth, and investment in a nationally important defence project," plans added.
