'Dangerous' man who stabbed and shot friend jailed

A man who stabbed his friend six times, before shooting him at point-blank range in the back and fleeing, has been jailed.

Callun Bermingham, 37, launched the "ferocious and sustained" attack on 25 March 2025, leaving his friend with life-threatening injuries, Luton Crown Court heard.

He had been consuming drugs and alcohol with the victim before returning to Repton Close, Luton, where a fight broke out the next morning.

Bermingham, of Belmont Road, also in Luton, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm on 5 May. He was sentenced to 11 years and six months in jail on Wednesday.

The emergency services were called to Repton Close after the victim, who was in his 30s, collapsed in the front garden of a neighbouring property while seeking help.

The man was taken to hospital, where he remained in a critical condition for weeks, according to Bedfordshire Police.

Bermingham fled the scene in a blue Jaguar and when he failed to stop for police, specialist armed response officers were deployed.

He was eventually arrested by the armed officers in Conway Road, after he attempted to drive the wrong way down a one-way street, colliding with three other vehicles.

A search of his vehicle revealed a live firearm and a bottle of vodka.

Bermingham also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and dangerous driving.

Det Insp Verity McCann said: "Bermingham is a very dangerous man and it is good that he will now face a substantial period behind bars.

"This was an appalling attack and could easily have proved fatal.

"There is no place for this sort of violence."
