Drugs found in bag of five-year-old pupil at top private school
AlamyDrugs were found in the school bag of a five-year-old pupil at one of Scotland's most prestigious private schools, BBC News understands.
The drug, which newspaper reports suggest was cocaine, was found in a bag belonging to a child at Glasgow Academy.
The discovery was made a few weeks ago but the details have only just emerged.
It is understood police were alerted after the discovery was made and the child's parents were called to the school.
Glasgow Academy, which has a roll of about 1,600, said the safety and wellbeing of its pupils was its highest priority.
A spokesperson said: "We do not comment on matters relating to individual children, in order to protect their privacy and welfare.
"Where any concern is raised, we act on it promptly and work closely with families and the relevant authorities to keep every child in our care safe."
