A biker has died following an early-morning crash with a lorry in North Ayrshire.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision on the B714 between Dalry and Saltcoats at 06:40.

The 71-year-old man, who was riding a Honda VT750 motorbike, died at the scene. His bike had collided with a white Mercedes Benz Sprinter dropside lorry.

Police Scotland said it was investigating the collision and asked any potential witnesses to get in touch.

The road was closed for more than six hours for investigations and reopened at about 13:00.

Sgt Brian Simpson said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died and his family had asked for privacy at what is a very difficult time.

"Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

"If you were driving in the area at the time please check any dash-cam footage you have to see if something that could assist with our investigation has been captured."
