Railway station toilet repairs under way

An MP has welcomed work to bring toilets at a train station back into use.

Graham Stuart said he had been working to get the facilities at Beverley railway station restored.

The MP for Beverley and Holderness said they had been shut to the public for more than a year.

A Network Rail spokesperson said the toilets should reopen by the end of the month and added: "We recognise the frustration caused by the temporary closure of these facilities and are sorry for the inconvenience."

In a statement on his website, Stuart said: "These toilets should never have been closed for this long, but what matters now is getting the job finished.

"People using Beverley station are not asking for anything extravagant. They just expect the basic facilities at an important local station to work, and they are right."

The Network Rail spokesperson added: "The toilets were closed after damage to the roof resulted in water leaks, which caused issues with internal fixtures, fittings and electrical systems.

"Repairs to the roof are currently under way and will be followed by internal refurbishment.

"We expect the toilets to be back in use by the end of September."
