In Pictures: Baby pandas and charity abseilers

This week, people from across the region, including NHS staff and a web-slinging Spider-Man, abseiled over St Michael's Hospital, raising more than £11,500 for the NHS.

In Gloucestershire, a 97-year-old Betty Bromage, who holds the world record for being the world's oldest female wing walker, was greeted with a round of applause as she delivered a cheque to Cheltenham General Hospital's stroke unit.

Beacon of celebration: Thousands gathered in Gloucester Park to celebrate this year's Pride in Gloucestershire. The event is now in its 20th year and aims to boost visibility of the LGBTQ+ community.

Walk on water: Severe silt accumulation at Gloucester Docks has created unnaturally shallow water and exposed mudbanks, allowing birds to walk across parts of the basin rather than swim.

Cooling off: Congratulations to Paul Nicholls who has had three images shortlisted in the British Photography Awards 2026, including this picture of a cockatoo eating ice cream during one of the summer heatwaves in Stroud.

Round of applause: Betty Bromage, 97, received a warm welcome when she delivered a cheque for £4,350 to Cheltenham General Hospital's Stroke unit.

She raised the money by breaking her own record for being the world's oldest female wing-walker.

Cute cub: Saturday 19 September marked International Red Panda Day. Earlier this year, the safari park welcomed an endangered red panda pub. The little cub is two months old now and is said to be doing well.

Extraordinary commitment: Volunteers at Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance have given more than 3,200 hours work for the charity since January, a rise of 31% for the same period year-on-year.

Standing tall: Thank you to our Weather Watchers for their stunning photos of sunflowers in bloom in Warminster and Chippenham.

Marvellous mornings: There have been some stunning sunrises this week, such as this one caught by Weather Watcher flashbangwallop in Corsham.

Memory lane: Former staff and pupils from Upavon Primary School have shared their memories before the building goes up for auction.

Graceful sight: This great crested grebe was captured on the Somerset Levels this week. The diving waterbird is common on the lakes and reservoirs and is well-known for its elaborate courtship dance.

Dawn visit: Another birdwatcher on the Somerset Levels photographed these Canada geese, beautifully reflected in the light from the rising sun.

New team: English Heritage volunteer co-ordinator, James Adams, is training people to use scythes at Muchelney Abbey on the Somerset Levels to help restore historic meadows and save the shrill carder bee, one of Britain's rarest bees.

Friday feeling: Bristol City fans headed to Ashton Gate on Friday night to see a Dom Ballard header take the points against Watford, and take the Robins into the play-off places.

Towering success: NHS staff and supporters stepped into harnesses and sailed over the edge of St Michael's Hospital in Bristol this week for Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity's popular Big Bristol Abseil.

They raised more than £11,500, which will go towards supporting patients, family across Bristol and Weston.

In loving memory: John Mason has run 120 miles (193km) in memory of his mum who died from cancer. The 46-year-old took on the gruelling challenge from Tottenham in North London to his family home in Nailsea, North Somerset and raised more than £6,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Pink plaques: These have been popping up around Bristol this week, celebrating some of Bristol's most influential creations. Brazen, the organisation that put them up, said they were inspired by Historic England's blue plaques, showing where a historic person made a significant contribution to society.
