An on-call firefighter celebrating 35 years in service has said it is a "proud moment".

Terry Steele is the second of three generations of his family to have worked at Seascale Fire Station, with his father Chris serving from 1978 to 2002 and his son George joining in 2024.

Steele said the nature of the call-outs when he joined in 1991 were "very different" from today, "with chip pan and chimney fires commonplace" and basic kit - "a far cry from today's service".

Awarding him a commemorative plaque, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) said Steele had shown "passion and commitment" and thanked his family for "allowing Terry to dedicate so much time to protecting our communities".

An on-call firefighter serves their local fire and rescue station on a part-time basis.

CFRS said the current crew at Seascale had a range of day jobs, from being Sellafield workers to farmers.
