Alderney Week returns for 75th anniversary

Alderney Week is marking its 75th event since the German Occupation, organisers have said.

The event runs from Monday until 10 August.

The Alderney Week team said it hoped this year's theme 'step back in time', would "inspire costumes and decorations from all the years gone past".

Celebrations for the event can be dated back to the 1800s.

Organisers said this year’s event was "full of the usual favourites, a couple of new surprises and also a few trips down memory lane".

Activities include parades, a daft raft race, sand castle contests and a torch light procession.

The event did not take place during the Covid pandemic.

Organisers said 2024 was the 75th time the annual celebration would take place since the island was liberated from German Occupation at the end of World War Two.
