Drivers are being warned of a diversion as an M25 junction will see slip road works for a second weekend in a row.

Surrey County Council said the junction 11 clockwise exit slip road - in the Gatwick to Heathrow direction - will shut from 23:00 BST on Friday until 05:00 on Monday.

The road near Chertsey will be excavated to allow new drainage and utility services to be laid.

"This important upgrade to the M25 junction 11 will increase capacity and improve traffic flows, particularly at peak times," said Natalie Bramhall from Surrey County Council.

"We appreciate that these works will inconvenience people who use this junction, so thank them in advance for their patience."

The local authority outlined the official diversion as follows:

  • Continue on the M25 clockwise carriageway
  • Use M25 junction 12 to join the M3 towards London
  • Leave the M3 at junction one – signposted A308 for Staines, Kingston and Sunbury
  • Turn around using the roundabout, joining the M3 southbound towards the M25
  • At M3 junction two, join the M25 anticlockwise towards Gatwick and Woking
  • Leave the M25 anticlockwise at Junction 11

It comes after traffic was diverted on the first weekend of October as the anti-clockwise slip road was temporarily closed.

Surrey County Council said the works were part of improvements to the A320 around Ottershaw and Chertsey.

The north and southbound exit slip roads are set to be widened to provide dedicated left-turn lanes, enlarge the roundabout, resurface the road and improve drainage, traffic signals and street lighting.

Further lane closures will be needed on the slip roads over the coming months to complete the project, the council said.
