The Sparks Awards are sponsored by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority alongside local businesses

An award scheme celebrating those who support and inspire children and young people has been launched by a city council.

Peterborough City Council said the Spark Awards aim to recognise the dedication and impact of individuals and organisations, including volunteers working with children across the city.

Young people will play a central role in the awards process by taking part in judging, entertainment and prize-giving ceremony, the authority said.

"Every day, individuals and teams make a lasting difference in children's lives, often without seeking recognition," said Katy Cole, the council's cabinet member for children's services.

"These awards are our chance to shine a light on their compassion, commitment and care."

Cole added: "I would love to see nominations for the shining stars across Peterborough - teachers, youth workers, volunteers, sports leaders and dedicated professionals."

Categories for the awards include Children's Champion, Outstanding Team, Partnership Excellence, Lifelong Service and Innovation in Practice.

Nominations can be submitted on the council's website and are open until 31 July, with the awards ceremony expected to be held on 22 October.
