Shopping vouchers reward for taking bus or walking
East Riding of Yorkshire CouncilPeople who walk, cycle or use public transport in East Yorkshire are being offered reward points that can be exchanged for shopping vouchers.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has developed an app called BetterPoints that users can log when they travel without using their car.
Points can be redeemed for vouchers that can be spent in local stores, high street chains and online shops.
Alternatively, the points can be donated to local and national charities.
The council said the aim was to encourage people to become more active and also cut carbon emissions.
Councillor Paul West, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "This is a fantastic scheme where people can earn vouchers or support charities just by walking, riding bikes or using buses and trains.
"It's such a simple idea and we hope it will inspire people to choose more active and greener ways of getting about."
