Second arrest after fire in top-floor flat

A man has been arrested after a fire in a top-floor flat spread to the building's roof space.

Firefighters were called to Keel House, a block of 32 flats on Dorchester Road in Weymouth, shortly before 01:00 BST on Sunday.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said 30 firefighters worked to tackle the flames at the height of the blaze. The building was fully evacuated, with residents taken to temporary accommodation. No injuries were reported.

Dorset Police said a man arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life remained in police custody. The force added that a woman arrested on suspicion of the same offence had been released on police bail.

The fire service said firefighters found a "well-developed" fire within a flat that had spread to the roof.

Crews inside had to withdraw when the roof became unstable and a second aerial ladder was brought in.

Aster Group, which manages the building, said its teams were supporting residents alongside Dorset Council.

The authority set up a rest centre for those displaced on Sunday while accommodation arrangements were put in place for residents.
