Thousands descend on Weymouth for 10th Ironman race

More than 2,800 athletes took part in Weymouth's 10th Ironman triathlon on Sunday.

The majority of competitors were from the UK but some came from as far afield as the USA, Ireland and the Netherlands.

The contest was ultimately won by British athletes, with Harry Lamb and Katherine Amps crowned champions for 2026.

The 11th edition of the race in 2027 has already been announced for 12 September with general registration opening on Thursday 1 October.

The triathlon consisted of a one lap, 1.2-mile swim in calm waters on the Jurassic Coast, before a 56-mile bike course to King's Stag, via Puddletown and Dorchester.

A new run route took athletes on a 2.5-lap, 13.1-mile course along the sea front and Custom House Quay, ending on the red carpet at the Pavilion.

Lamb, who finished in 04:13:03, said: "The bike was lovely. Then the crowd were just amazing.

"A big shout out to the crowd today, thank you."

Amps, who completed the course in 04:49:10, said: "It was such a good battle. It's so special.

"Everyone works so hard for this sport, it's nice when it all comes together."

Thousands of spectators and supporters lined the seafront to cheer the athletes home.

This year's event also saw the first Ironkids race, with children aged three to 15 running between 500m and 1.5km near the Pavilion, finishing on the red carpet.
