'Community effort' praised as 10,000 trees planted
North Northamptonshire CouncilVolunteers have helped to plant more than 10,000 new trees during this year's planting season, North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) has said.
Areas targeted included Isebrook School in Kettering, country parks including East Carlton, community spaces in Wellingborough and the route between Corby town centre and the railway station.
The authority said a key focus had been to replace young trees that did not survive last summer's dry spell, and that native hedgerows had also been planted to support wildlife.
Reform councillor Ken Harrington said: "This has been a genuine community effort, with schools, volunteers, local groups and council teams all coming together to make a real difference."
The freshly planted trees would create important habitats, boost biodiversity and enhance public spaces, the authority added.
NNC leader Martin Griffiths said the project would bring "enormous benefits to communities".
