Train services affected after trackside fire

Train services travelling to London have been affected by damage caused by a trackside fire.

Network Rail said there were delays to Great Western Railway (GWR) services, as well as a reduced service operating on the Elizabeth Line and Heathrow Express, due to fire damage to the electrical substation at Kensal Green.

British Transport Police (BTP) said it had been called to reports of a trackside fire in the Scrubs Lane area at about 16:45 BST on Saturday.

This resulted in passengers being evacuated from affected trains, it said.

According to National Rail's arrivals board, a number of services calling at Reading on Monday have been cancelled, including the 13:52 service from Didcot Parkway.

Passengers are being advised to check before they travel.

BTP said a man attended a central London police station later on Saturday, where he was arrested on suspicion of arson.

He was later released on bail pending further enquiries, the force said.

On Monday morning GWR said the line between Reading and London Paddington was blocked due to a vehicle colliding with a bridge, with disruption expected until 12:30.
