Unqualified man struck off for doing nursing shifts
NMCA man who completed 10 shifts at a mental health hospital that he was not qualified to do has been struck off the nursing register.
Nana Kwasi Asabre got a job through an agency to work the shifts as a registered nurse in June 2022 and July 2022 at Prospect Park Hospital in Reading.
He was also found to have given medication to a patient without a nurse present and then left a medication cabinet unlocked during a shift on 24 July 2022.
Asabre told a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) panel that he "deeply regretted" his actions and "the concern they have caused to the profession [and] the public".
He said he had worked the shifts "under the belief that the roles assigned" by the Your World healthcare agency "were appropriate to my level of experience and training".
The NMC said he had been dishonest because he knew he was not qualified to complete the shifts "but did so anyway".
It said he had "sought to deflect blame onto the agency" for booking him onto shifts and that his conduct "could have put patients at significant risk of harm".
The NMC said Asabre worked for the Oxford Health NHS Trust as a healthcare assistant between September 2021 and July 2022.
He was qualified to work as a nursing associate.
The agency was contacted to comment.
