A man who damaged costumes and wigs while trying them on in a dressing room for drag queens has been jailed for seven months.

Gvidas Malinauskas dressed up in the costumes at the Union Street Bar in Belfast on 21 September in 2025.

The prosecutor said the 42-year-old left some of the clothing with stains and smelling of urine and some were ripped.

The Lithuanian national, of no fixed abode, admitted charges of burglary with intent to steal and criminal damage.

Belfast Magistrates' Court heard that CCTV checks showed Malinauskas going into the bar through an unlocked front door at around 09:00 BST and made his way to the dressing room, left about 12:00, then returned about an hour later.

A lawyer for the Public Prosecution Service said: "He was wearing a white fluffy coat, pink boots and a long wig" and about an hour later he changed into a beige catsuit.

The defendant returned to the dressing room and "left wearing a blue body suit and blonde wig," the prosecutor added.

The court also heard that later that day one of the performers alerted the manager of the bar after finding that Malinauskas had returned to the dressing room and was wearing a black catsuit around his knees, a pink fluffy top and a red wig and that he then changed back into his own clothes and left the bar.

The total damage caused to the outfits was assessed at just under £1,100.

'Clear record'

The defence counsel, said that Malinauskas was drunk could not understand why he was in the bar.

He said: "There is no suggestion his actions were motivated by hostility against any of the performers at the Union Bar on the basis of (sexual) orientation."

The defence argued that his client had been in custody on remand since the incident.

It was also disclosed that the defendant is currently facing separate extradition proceedings in connection with alleged dishonesty offences in Lithuania.

District Judge George Conner said he gave "credit" for the guilty plea and for the clear record.
