Two arrested after suspected firearms discovered during security alert

Two men have been arrested following the discovery of suspected firearms and a suspicious device at a property in east Belfast.

The arrests followed a security alert at Victor Place on Wednesday afternoon, which led to a number of homes being evacuated.

Police had received a report that two masked men with firearms were seen in the Victor street vicinity.

A man in his 40s and a man in his 20s were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm under suspicious circumstances.

The suspicious item was later deemed not to be viable.

The man aged in his 20s has been released on bail, while the man aged in his 40s remains in police custody.
