Cyclist who reported bad driving told to pay £1,200 over bad riding

A cyclist who submitted footage of bad driving to the police has also been fined after the same video showed his poor riding.

The Leeds-based wheeler had originally uploaded a video to West Yorkshire Police's Op Snap portal for driving offences, which showed a car passing too close to him in Menston, near Ilkley.

But police said the video also captured him "riding without due care and attention" as he approached a parked car and an oncoming vehicle. A force spokesperson said the distance he gave was "significantly less than the car he reported earlier had given him".

The cyclist was ordered to pay more than £1,200 in fines and court costs when he appeared at Bradford Magistrates' Court.
