Hundreds gather to watch solar eclipse

An amateur astronomical society said the turn out for their solar eclipse viewing event was "amazing".

The gathering, on Stopsley Common in Luton, was organised by Luton Astronomical Society with about 800 people attending.

Millions of people across the UK and Europe witnessed the most significant solar eclipse since 1999.

For watchers in Luton, and most of the UK, more than 90% of the Sun was covered by the Moon.
