Huntspill and Highbridge scouts offering Christmas card postal service

A scout group is offering a Christmas card postal service to the community.

Huntspill and Highbridge Scout Group, in Somerset, is delivering cards around the local area for 25p per item, with delivery guaranteed for Christmas.

The Scout Post scheme was set up 30 years ago by the late Bob and Pat Weller.

Sue Hunter, the group scout and cub leader, said the scheme "enables people to send cards that maybe wouldn't normally because of the cost."

The scouts are hoping to deliver more than 3,000 cards to residents this year.

Scout Post is one of the group's main annual fundraisers and has brought in thousands of pounds over the years, with all the money raised invested back into the group.

This year, the scouts worked with Burnham and Highbridge Men's Shed to create 12 new collection boxes, which have been placed around the local area for people to post their Christmas cards.

The new post boxes are designed in memory of Mr and Mrs Weller, with a plaque honouring their legacy.

Ms Hunter said: "This year it's very important.

"We lost two very valued members and supporters of our group, Bob and Pat Weller.

"These boxes have all got a little plaque on because the whole thing is dedicated to them."

Scout Post boxes are located in Burnham-on-Sea, Berrow, Highbridge, Pawlett and West Huntspill, with the scheme running until 16 December.
