Nursery worker arrested over alleged child assault
GoogleA children's nursery worker has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a child, Lincolnshire Police has said.
The woman in her 30s from the Fun Farm Day Nursery in North Hykeham has been released on conditional bail, the force added.
The nursery has written a letter to parents, seen by the BBC, saying it had been closed by Ofsted "due to an alleged safeguarding breach between a member of staff and a child".
In a statement the nursery said it was "wholly committed to the provision of first-class, caring and responsible care".
Ofsted confirmed the removal of the nursery's registration, with a spokesperson adding "the suspension will be reviewed in line with our published policy".
Lincolnshire Police said: "We are aware of speculation circulating online suggesting this incident involved a sexual assault.
"At this stage of our inquiries, there is no information to indicate that a sexual assault has taken place.
"We recognise this will be a concerning time for parents and carers; however, we would like to stress that speculation can be harmful and may impact our investigation."
The letter from the nursery added that it was trying to offer additional places at its city nursery to parents affected by the closure and that the adjoining family play area would remain open as normal.
In a statement, it added: "When we had reason for concern concerning the actions of a member of staff we reported those concerns to Ofsted, providing the evidence available to us.
"We accept and understand Ofsted's requirement for a temporary suspension, and we will be cooperating fully with their investigation and with any related police inquiries."
