UHI Inverness looking at job cuts to save £2m in staff costs

UHI Inverness has launched a voluntary severance scheme to reduce annual staffing costs by about £2m.

Bosses at the site, which is part of the University of the Highlands and Islands network, said they had to "ensure financial sustainability".

Staff were informed of the move during face-to-face and online briefings.

Principal Prof Chris O'Neil said UHI Inverness had not met its higher education recruitment target this year, resulting in a shortfall in income.

He said: "It is essential we act now to achieve long-term financial stability and ensure a sustainable structure for the future, to enable us to continue to provide an excellent student experience and deliver the education and skills needed to support the economic prosperity of the region.

"We appreciate the support of our trade union groups as we prepare to implement this scheme."
