Brewery sells three pubs to 'stabilise' business

An independent brewery and hospitality operator has agreed the sale of three of its pubs.

True North Brew Co has given up The British Oak in Mosborough and The Old Grindstone in Crookes, both in Sheffield, along with The Milton Arms in Elsecar, Barnsley.

The company said it wanted to "strengthen and stabilise" its business due to a "challenging period" for the industry.

Owner Kane Yeardley, said: "This has not been an easy decision, but it is a necessary step to secure the long-term future of our company. We are committed to supporting our teams through this transition and ensuring our remaining venues continue to thrive."

The company, which acquired the Abbeydale Picture House in Sheffield in 2025 to transform it into a "premier entertainment venue", said the three pubs had been "an important part of the company's estate".

It said it had relinquished them to secure new ownership that would continue to operate them as pubs, "preserving their character and role" within their local communities.

In 2024, The Waggon and Horses in Sheffield was given a new lease to use a nearby park as its beer garden after True North Brew went into administration in 2023.

Administrators had sold its assets to new owners Cocktails and Craft Beers Ltd and all jobs were saved.

According to Companies House records, in 2023 the new owners successfully applied to change their name to True North Brew Co.

The company said while deciding to sell the three pubs it took a "considered and proactive approach" to protect the long-term health of its wider estate, focusing on "preserving the strength" of the core business.

Is said the sale and transfer was expected to complete within about three months and it remained "fully committed" to supporting the wellbeing and future of its employees.

All affected team members would have the opportunity to transfer to the new owners, it said. For those who wanted to remain with True North Brew Co, every effort would be made to find suitable alternative opportunities within the business.

The company thanked its staff and customers for their "continued support, loyalty, and dedication".
